Sh. Bilal Phillips: Holy Names of Allah SWT (Series)

One of the philosophers was asked: “How would you choose your woman”? So he replied

One of the philosophers was asked: “How would you choose your woman”? So he replied…

I don’t want her beautiful (for fear) others may want her, nor ugly that myself feels repulsed from her

Nor tall so that I lift my head for her, nor short that I bow my head for her

Nor fat so that she blocks the pathways of fresh air, nor skinny so that I presume her to be my fantasy

Nor uneducated so that she does not understand me, nor educated so that she argues with me

Nor white like wax, nor black like a spectre

Nor rich so she says: “That’s my money!”, nor poor so my child suffers after me..

The point being with all these conditions, you’re going to stay one lonely old man. And what truly separates us is Taqwa, if only we knew..

Just didn’t agree with some of the translation so I thought I would give it a go myself.

Muadh ibn Jabal (RA) said:

Study knowledge, for learning it for the sake of Allah is truly fearing Him. Seeking it is worship, revising it is Glorification of Allah, searching for it is a type of Jihad, teaching it to those who do not know it is a charity, and giving it to those who deserve it; is a means of drawing near to Allah.

For knowledge sets the milestones for what is halal and haram, it is an illuminating light to the path of paradise, a comforter in times of loneliness, the one who will speak to you when you are lonely, a companion in times of seclusion, the one who will guide in times of hardship and ease, a weapon against one’s enemies, a relative among the strangers, and the best with the closest of friends.

Allah raises (in status) nations by it, making them leaders of goodness, whose guidance and paths are to be followed, those whose actions are looked to and imitated and with whom the final opinion will rest with.

The legislation belongs to Allah..

I don’t agree with the shaykh’s conclusion with regards to voting or his verdict regrading Khalifah in the Q&A. But the bulk of the lecture is very beneficial inshAllah.
