A student of knowledge wrote the below regarding the book:
or starters, for those who can read Arabic, I highly recommend reading this by Abu Fihr al-Salafi. He has alot of excellent advices about Talab in general and programs of study for specific fields. The only disclaimer: his advice on what to study for Fiqh and Usul is not very good and I’m unimpressed with it, but otherwise, his recommendations are very good, particularly his recommendations on Aqidah.

بم أدركت العلم ؟ قال : أدركت العلم بلسان سؤول ،وقلب عقول ، وبدن غير ملول
Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما was asked:
How did you gain your knowledge?
He said: I gained it with an inquisitive tongue, an understanding heart, and a body that does not tire.
sharh riyadus al-saaliheen shaykh Uthameen
‘Umar رضي الله عنهما said of him:
فقال لهم : ذاكم فتى الكهول له لسان سؤول وقلب عقول
This is for you a mature(with regards to his understanding of the deen) young boy, who has an inquisitive tongue, and an understanding heart.

And Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما said of himself:
قال ابن عباس: ذللت طالباً فعززت مطلوباً
I was lowered in my pursuit of knowledge.
So I became esteemed, when I was pursued.

فنسيان ذكر الله مـــــوت قـــــلوبهم وأجـسامهم قـبل الـقبور قبور .
وأرواحهم في وحشة من جسومهم وليس لهم حتى النشور نشور
The forgetfulness of the remembrance of Allah is the death of their hearts
Their bodies are graves before the eventual grave
Their souls are in solitude away from their bodies
And they will not be resurrected (their bodies or souls) until the Day of resurrection (i.e. Judgement day)

عَنْ أَبِي طَوِيلٍ شَطَبٍ الْمَمْدُودِ، أَنَّهُ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: أَرَأَيْتَ رَجُلا عَمِلَ الذُّنُوبَ كُلَّهَا، فَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ مِنْهَا شَيْئًا، وَهُوَ فِي ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَتْرُكْ حَاجَةً وَلا دَاجَةً إِلا أَتَاهَا، فَهَلْ لَهُ مِنْ
تَوْبَةٍ؟ قَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم: “فَهَلْ أَسْلَمْتَ؟“قَالَ: أَمَّا أَنَا فَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ، وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ.قَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم: “نَعَمْ تَفْعَلُ الْخَيْرَاتِ، وَتَتْرُكُ السَّيِّئَاتِ، فَيَجْعَلُهُنَّ اللَّهُ لَكَ خَيْرَاتٍ كُلَّهُنَّ”.قَالَ: وَغَدَرَاتِي وَفَجَرَاتِي؟قَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم:“نَعَمْ”.قالَ: اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، فَمَا زَالَ يُكَبِّرُ حَتَّى تَوَارَى.
أخرجه البزار في مسنده والطبراني في المعجم الكبير
It is narrated from Abu Taweel Shatab Al-Mamdood that he came to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and said, “What do you make of a man who did every single sin and did not leave any sin whatsoever, and he did not leave any desire – big or small – except that he fulfilled it. So is there any repentance for him?”The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “So did you accept Islam?”He said, “As for me, I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship besides Allah – He is One and has no partners – and you are the messenger of Allah (i.e. yes)”.The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Yes, do good deeds and leave sins and Allah will turn all your sins into good deeds”.He said, “Even my treachery/betrayals and my immorality?”He صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Yes”.He said, “Allahu Akbar!” and he continued saying it until he left.

حدثنا الـحسن بن يحيـى، قال: أخبرنا عبد الرزاق، قال: أخبرنا معمر، قال: وأخبرنـي الـحكم بن أبـان، عن عكرمة مولـى ابن عبـاس فـي قوله: { لاَ تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلاَ نَوْمٌ } أن موسى سأل الـملائكة: هل ينام الله؟ فأوحى الله إلـى الـملائكة، وأمرهم أن يؤرّقوه ثلاثاً فلا يتركوه ينام. ففعلوا، ثم أعطوه قارورتـين فأمسكوه، ثم تركوه وحذروه أن يكسرهما. قال: فجعل ينعس وهما فـي يديه، فـي كل يد واحدة. قال: فجعل ينعس وينتبه، وينعس وينتبه، حتـى نعس نعسة، فضرب بإحداهما الأخرى فكسرهما. قال معمر: إنـما هو مثل ضربه الله، يقول: فكذلك السموات والأرض فـي يديه.
On the authority of ‘ikrmah the free slave of Ibn Abbas, regarding His saying: لاَ تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلاَ نَوْمٌ .
