Two factors one should consider before reading any text

Currently reading a book on ‘literary terms and criticism’

An interesting point is made:

‘There are, in fact, two contexts in which any work can be seen: a generic or genre context, and a historic context’

We can even apply this Islamically I feel.

In the genre sense, we can categorise works into their respected fields; be it usool al fiqh, fiqh, uloom al Quran, mustalah al hadeeth and etc.

Secondly, one should see the historic context the book was written.

When one understands these two very important primers before embarking on studying the text, it will help them achieve a more well rounded approach in analysing what is put before them.

Allah knows best.
