.. like a dead camel

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Prophet ﷺ‎ said, “Whoever supports his people in oppression is like a dead camel that falls into a well and is pulled out by its tail.”

– Musnad Imam Ahmad 4141

*Ba’eer* بعير

Is the type of camel that is able to be ridden and carry heavy weight. That occurs once it reaches four years old. The word ba’eer is used for both the male and female camels.

In surah Yousuf

They said, “We are missing the measure of the king. And for he who produces it is [the reward of] a camel’s load, and I am responsible for it.” [Surat Yusuf 72]

And when they opened their baggage, they found their merchandise returned to them. They said, “O our father, what [more] could we desire? This is our merchandise returned to us. And we will obtain supplies for our family and protect our brother and obtain an increase of a camel’s load; that is an easy measurement.” [Surat Yusuf 65]

Therefore Ba’eer is the most useful type of camel. It is as rasool sallallaahu alaihe wa sallam wished to emphasise how shameful such an act is by stressing that the person was fully able to be of use to his people and benefit them, yet he became a burden for them and only increased the difficulties they faced through his actions.
