وروى الحاكم في المستدرك عن أبي رافع قال:
قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:
من غسل ميتاً فكتم عليه غفر له أربعين مرة، ومن كفن ميتا كساه الله من سندس وإستبرق الجنة، ومن حفر لميت قبراً وأجنّه فيه أجري له من الأجر كأجر مسكن إلى يوم القيامة.
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم ولم يخرجاه، وأقره على ذلك الذهبي في التلخيص، وصححه أيضاً الألباني، (هكذا بلفظ أربعين في نسخة المستدرك المطبوعة، والمصادر الحديثية التي عزت إليه).
Allāh’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said, “A person who washes a (deceased) Muslim and keeps anything he sees to himself, Allāh will forgive him forty times over. Anyone who digs a grave for him and buries him in it would be granted a reward similar to providing him a house in this world until the Day of Rising. Whoever shrouds the deceased, Allāh will clothe him on the Day of Rising with the silk of Paradise.”
[Bayhaqī 3:354, Ḥākim said it was ṣaḥīḥ with Dhahabī agreeing, and ibn Ḥajr, al-Dirāyah #140 said the isnād was strong.]
