كان عمر رضي الله عنه يبكي ليلا و نهارا فسئل عن ذلك فقال:

قد وليت أمرًا إن أعدل أحاسب، و إن أظلمت أعاقب، و إن نمت نهارا أضعت الرعية، و إن نمت ليلا أضعت نفسي

أخرج نحوه ابن عساكر في تاريخ دمشق

It is said umar رضي الله عنه would cry through out the day and night so he was asked about this and he رضي الله عنه replied by saying:

I have been put in a position of leadership, if I deal justly I will be questioned about it. And if deal oppressively I will be punished. And If I sleep during the day I would be neglecting those under my authority and if I sleep during the night I would be neglecting my self (by leaving of worshiping).
